500 words about flags in America.
I find it so weird and somewhat against the odds that both the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem are fixated on flags and specifically the American flag.
I mean it’s not a bad thing overall, really as far as creativity and getting people on the same page goes.
But doesn’t it seem odd that the inherent belief on what it means (or at least what is taught from a very young age) has its basis on someone looking at a flag? In the elementary school it is the students and in the inner Harbour in Baltimore Maryland, it was Scott Fitzgerald or was it the other guy whose name starts with an F Francis K Francis Scott K?
Is there anything else that can come to mind that would both rally Americans in a mutual support and reflect the definition/an approachable definition of being American?
Possible ideas: the constitution, the Bill of Rights, the ability built within the constitution to pivot to current day standards, what about the three areas of government and checks and balances,.
Is there something even simpler. A rule of thumb of sorts that when applied just about everyone would agree, yeah… That is what being American means“
Wouldn’t have to do with:
Free enterprise
Owning a home
Being able to flip the bird without legal consequences (I will concede that it could still cause a fist fight)
Taking a day off work
Having free time and/or free weekends?
Owning your own website
Having friends over for dinner or for football
Traveling with relatives?
Was kind of gets me thinking about what it means to be other nationalities which then leads me to think about what does it mean to be a human?
The ability to discover the ability to somehow make the human race better
The ability to follow a higher power for guidance however one might define that
The need to connect in collaborate and physically touch
Is it or could it be that each nationality is a scientific experiment trying to figure out the best path forward of fulfilling it’s populations individual humanity?
